What’s your passion and how do you want to make a difference in the world?

After graduating from UWA with a Bachelor of Science, and recieving a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford University, I have first hand experience of the way universities teach and the complications that come with sourcing course related readings and textbooks. Accessing assigned reading material is both costly and time consuming, with library provided copies not always readily available. I therefore felt the benefits to students of having all readings easily accessible through one user friendly platform would be massive for both increasing learning capabilities and lowering the cost to students of accessing necessary reading.

Why is inclusion important to you personally?

Moving to the UK to further my studies at Oxford has allowed me to meet a large number of culturally and internationally diverse people from all walks of life, further broadening my horizons. BibliU hires a range of different individuals all possessing a number of different transferable skills, and without the inclusion of this range of people, the growth and further development of BibliU would be limited. Alongside this, inclusion is especially important to myself due to the way I was personally included by individuals throughout my time in the UK. This level of inclusion helped me to better myself as a student, but most importantly also as an individual.

How do we create a society that does more than accept difference?

Open mindedness is needless to say a key part of creating an accepting society. However, this is not always as easy as it should be. Hence I feel for people to engage constructively with each other and embrace differences, often first hand experience of dealing with a variety of diverse individuals is necessary. I have been lucky enough to have had no choice and had to do this when moving to the UK, but I feel that if others were also put in the same position, even if at first they did not meet and work with people in an open minded manner, it would not take long to realise that this approach will undoubtedly lead to success in whatever projects these groups of individuals face, and is clearly the way to better society.
