What’s your passion and how do you want to make a difference in the world?
I am passionate about cultural inclusion and equality. I believe in the power of this generation to make global change and in the leadership capability of business and sport to bring people together. I am passionate about empowering our generation to be the change makers through strategic thinking, opportunity and action. As young leaders of the world we have the ability to create sustainable change that is driven by socially responsible organisations. As well as business as a vehicle for change, I believe sport provides a universal voice to bring all of us together as one as we witness every four years through the Olympic Games, for example.
Why is inclusion important to you personally?
Inclusion is important to me because today we live in globally connected communities. Issues on one side of the world no longer happen in isolation from those on the opposite side. I have had the fortunate privilege of studying, travelling and working across the world and hence feel a deep sense of gratitude, global connection and responsibility. This generation are citizens of the world. I am lucky enough to have friends and colleagues from different corners of this wonderful world and believe no matter where we come from we all deserve a fair go, empathy and understanding. To take a walk in your neighbour’s shoes is to show compassion and is the first step toward true inclusion. We have a duty to ensure equality and cultural inclusion for all of our neighbours – near and far.
How do we create a society that does more than accept difference?
I believe inclusion begins at an individual level with our hearts, minds and hands. Each person has the ability to show compassion and empathy; we have the collective intelligence to create opportunities, and inclusive societies and socially minded businesses; and we have the technology, skills and motivation to action change. At a person to person level this could be as simple as joining local sporting teams that have diverse backgrounds. At the highest levels this involves Governments and agencies such as the United Nations taking multi-partisan action.
