UWA and me![UWA Changemaker - Matt Lucarelli UWA Changemaker - Matt Lucarelli](https://alumni.uwa.edu.au/image/alumni-profile/Matt_Lucarelli_5x7_002-web.jpg)
Having studied at UWA as a post graduate student while working full time and having a young family, my time was extremely valuable. Along with the knowledge gained at UWA, being part of the UWA community has opened so many doors in business and started countless conversations. The brand is extremely strong and I find graduates are proud to have studied at UWA.
Since completing my MBA I’ve now had the opportunity to start my own business and have had unbelievable amounts of support from many of the great people in my cohort and the greater UWA community.
Aiming high
My passion is building and running great businesses and the people you get to work with along the way. Through skills gained studying at UWA I was able to help build and run a successful construction company and now have taken that experience through to my own business.
My aim is to build high performing businesses that provide opportunities to its employees that are far beyond what any organisations offer in today’s world. Be that helping them get to a position to start their own company, help them gain the skills to get their dream job or provide them a great place to be for the long term.
All about the journey
The most interesting aspect of my career is I know where I want to go, but I don’t pretend to know how I am going to get there and don’t doubt my goals will change. It’s all about the journey for me and that’s exciting. So far its been great, I’ve never been happier and never been working harder than I am now.
About Matt
Born and raised in Perth, straight after high school I went on to study Construction Management in Perth and abroad in the US. I have since spent 8 years working for Perkins, a mid tier commercial builder in Perth. Having worked my way up the organization from graduate to a senior management position, using the experience I gained and the skills learnt in my MBA at UWA put me in a position to start my own business.
Last year the timing was right and I took the opportunity to form Capstone Construction, a new commercial builder in the Perth market that focus’ on building long term relationships with staff and clients. I believe in people and that investing time and effort into your team is not only the right thing to do for them, but is the only way to deliver long term results.
Outside of work I have a young family with our second child on the way this year, love a game of golf when I get the time and am part of the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy program.
