Inspire younger people of colour

I'm heavily passionate about the intricacies of communication in forming cross-cultural relationships for the benefit of businesses, organisations, and communities. As a woman of colour in the corporate world, I strive to be a diversity, equity, and inclusion advocate in a space where balanced representation continues to be sparse. Barriers and biases need to be broken, and I hope to be a part of it or inspire younger people of colour to rise against discrimination, oppression, and microaggression for a more equitable future.

Finding your voice

I've worked across media, politics, and public relations landscapes which continue to be severely underrepresented. It's certainly interesting being the only person of colour in so many rooms for so many years. It's an unfortunate reality that every sector has important conversations and makes significant decisions without diverse representation. Through my own struggles and experiences, I've found my voice and hope to use it to advocate for more inclusive spaces. A brighter future awaits if spaces are created and held for people of colour.

The UWA grounds itself feels like a fairytale

It's impressive to study in a place steeped in history and with such a presence. Having the ability to sit in nature also makes such a difference as a young student caught up in life. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the diverse range of students and making friends with people from different cultural backgrounds. I believe connecting with peers from various cultures, cities, and languages is an important step towards learning empathy.

The power of communication

During my studies at UWA, I truly discovered the power of communication and how it translates to every aspect of life. Methods and delivery of communication are at the heart of our society and communities. Superiors are expert communicators while true leaders are empathetic communicators. There is a big difference, and understanding the intricacies of communication can give the right person great power. These takeaways allow me to develop compelling communication strategies and be an empathetic manager in my current role.
