Baby steps help make the world a better place.

My life mission is to leave the world a better place than when I entered it. This means doing genuine good for the lives of others.

I've experienced being a woman, an Asian and an Immigrant in the workplace, facing discrimination in my job search.

Currently, I am a Recruitment Consultant, and I have a passion for helping fresh graduates, minorities and migrants (such as myself) find gainful employment. I've taken steps to remove biases in screening candidates and my organization involves us in activities like the Future Scientist Award, which gives science graduates the opportunity to showcase themselves to employers from Australia’s leading scientific companies, and first nation engagement.

Baby steps help make the world a better place. (As cliché as that sounds)

Giving people a second chance

The most rewarding aspect of my job is giving people second chances.

I vividly remember a candidate who had been shunned from jobs in her industry because of her maternity leave. She told me, not only was she rejected but told by numerous recruiters that she no longer held value in the marketplace. My candidate was about to give up on looking for a job.

I encouraged and built up her confidence, helped her with her resume and interview techniques and we were able to land her a permanent role.

We all need someone to believe in us and I am honoured to provide that opportunity.

The importance of failing

I believe that my education laid an important foundation for how I approach professional networking and my work ethic.

My time at UWA has taught me the importance of failing and how to get back up. Through the trials and tribulations of completing my coursework and working together with groupmates, I will be the first to admit that I've failed.

Be it submitting an essay late or a failed group project, the tutors I've had were amazing in helping me gleam beads of wisdom and work towards being a better communicator and person, through concrete action plans.

This has helped me immensely in connecting with my clients and candidates.

Analyse consumer behaviour

You might be wondering how a Marketing and Management graduate ended up as a Recruitment Consultant.

At this point, I would like to clarify that Recruitment Consultants are only a small branch of HR and I work within an external function.

My day to day life is not just talent acquisition but also presenting my candidates to organizations they align with. I believe my background in Marketing has not only helped me analyse consumer behaviour but also how to best meet client demands.
