My goal
I am passionate about music and how music education can develop a holistic and creative individual from a young age. My goal is to make music education available and affordable to all children as I believe in the positive effects it has on our cognitive function and mental wellbeing. Upon establishing music schools in cities, I plan to travel to rural areas to provide quality music education and training for teachers to sustain a music program at their school or town.
Education for all
I find working with young children fascinating as their creativity and imagination is innocent and unhindered. I am positively challenged to work and adapt to these spontaneous creative ideas from young children. As I interact with children on a daily basis, it gives me insights into a child's perspective of music and how their thought process is nurtured. I believe that through these experiences, I am able to design curricula that contain multiple perspectives that I gather from young children, bringing differentiated education to all children.
UWA's wide network
I value the opportunities at UWA to explore and experience different roles in my industry. As an undergraduate music student, I was able to experience being a teacher, accompanist, performer and conductor before choosing to specialize in education for my postgraduate degree. There were scholarships and prizes which were a great form of encouragement to achieve excellence. In addition, with UWA's wide network, I was attached to reputable schools during my teaching practicum and gained valuable insights into the industry through my mentors and supervisors.
My UWA degree
My UWA degrees have provided opportunities for theoretical understanding, in-depth analytical thinking skills and creative practical application. These are key skills that I continually improve on as I work in classrooms and studios. My postgraduate studies have equipped me to teach both in the classroom and instrumental studio. I apply and develop these skills as I continue to work with children in group settings and individually. The concept of differentiation that is emphasised in the postgraduate degree is largely effective in both scenarios of work that I am currently in.
