The value of a UWA degree

For me, everything starts with passion.

I love sport and wellness which lead me to a Human Movement degree when I graduated high school. When it came to a career path, I wanted something outside sport and recreation but where I could leverage my passion and learning from my Human Movement degree. After some time navigating the entry level steps of the corporate world in the early 2000s, I found Human Resources. Once I found Human Resources I wanted to learn more and ended up completing a Grad Cert which led to a Masters in Commerce – my new passion feeding my educational want for knowledge. With the latest understanding in the field from a great university, I headed to the east coast and overseas and have spent time with some brilliant leadership teams building their people strategy which is now my passion.

You might find it lucky and have your passion and education come together immediately, but for most, I think with an open mind to exploring careers and industries and also being flexible and mobile, you will get to a great place. This needs to be a medium to long term view. If you don’t get it right keep exploring. There are so many exciting opportunities there, if you work hard and dig under the surface. The future of work is ever evolving and to be at the cutting edge of innovation and thinking, you need to take something different to the table. Never pigeon hole yourself and always link what you have learnt in your past to your future, it’s all relevant.
