What is your passion and how do you make a difference in the world?
I am passionate about a lot of things, but predominantly - social media and fitness.
Social media is something that I have had an interest in for the longest of times - I love to see how the world works and is growing during times when media is so prevalent and how people can use it to improve or benefits their lives. More often than not, we spend so much time online and I love to see how it has helped everyone despite the naysayers. I’m also dedicated to improving my fitness level. It’s helped me to stay disciplined, and allow me to keep track of my goals.
What is the most interesting aspect of your career and where can it go from here?
The most interesting aspect in my current career would be having to speak Chinese for the most part of my conversations. Having grown up speaking primarily English, it was interesting to see how my command of my second language has grown since starting this new job. Moreover, currently working in tech marketing has helped me learn so much more in a B2B aspect compared to B2C and I feel more fulfilled here. I don't think I'd be able to go back to a B2C project basis unless it's in tech.
Reflecting on your time studying at UWA, what aspects of your experience were most important for your development?
Being a part of the International Students Services as the Marketing Officer / Lighthouse Editor was a stepping stone for me and cemented my love for social media and media in general. I always knew I had a passion for it, but being in a school that supported my choices of studying both business and media has helped me eventually made the decision to go into a career that allows me to do both. I think the lecturers have also played such a big role in giving me advice for my career progressions (and my friends for telling me not to give up).
How has your degree from UWA helped you in your current role?
As mentioned, having the flexibility to study what I was interested in and having a lot of choices in terms of electives allowed me to decide what I wanted to focus on. Moreover, my double major in UWA has helped me open up more opportunities in my career as I become one of those that has different skill sets, allowing me to be, for a lack of better word, more valued and useful in the company - leading to clients trusting me.
Who is Nicole Koh?
Two words to describe Nicole would be "Social Hybrid", having spent three to four years working in agencies ranging from local to global - she has a vast experience in working with clients all around the world. From marathons to tech marketing, she has experience in all.
Apart from work, Nicole spends most of her time at the gym with her partner or going on coffee hunts. Having an addiction to coffee may not be a very good thing, but there's nothing she would change about that. She also loves going out with friends, and having a social life despite a packed schedule.
