A big date

I arrived at UWA on 20 Aug 2015. This date has become a memorable to me because I joined my employer on the same date three years later. At 25 years of age, I am working in an engineering company, Arcadia, as a project manager based in Beijing.

At UWA, I met many well-respected professors including Professor Barry Lehane and Professor Andy Fourie. I touched and learnt many advanced technologies and theories. I was honoured to work at that level with those people. Their guidance has affected my career plan and path, improving my employment prospects while cultivating my ability to think independently.

I have to say, UWA is important to my life today, to my job and to my communications. In considering me for my current role, the interviewer was interested in me because of UWA and the competitive education and engineering background it provided.

Hands-on learning to make a difference

From my point of view, all over the world we are facing various population and environmental problems. I think the main work of engineering in the future could be find out how to balance a growing population with a deteriorating environment.

I would like to use my professional knowledge to contribute to the future. How I make a difference in the world will be determined by many factors. UWA has provided me the relevant knowledge. How I use it will be determined by the opportunities I find and receive.

Words of wisdom

Seek to be a better man. Seek wisdom [the UWA motto].

I am working in the www.arcadis.com Project Management Group. I never expected to be a project manager. I find it very interesting.

In this job, I use not only the professional engineering knowledge I acquired at UWA but also, specifically, what I learned from GENG 5505, the project management course. Those two years were valuable.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, free diving and I’m a jazz player.
