 UWA Boat Club Centenary

The UWA Boat Club has enabled students to participate and perform in rowing for 100 years in Western Australia.
Our rowers – past and present – have given the club so many reasons to celebrate.
Join the club in celebrating its Centenary year.

Celebrating 100 years of rowing

Supporting our next generation of rowers

The University of Western Australia was built for the prosperity of the people of Western Australia and, for generations, this purpose has been supported through the Boat Club.

In over 100 years, student rowers have gained invaluable experiences and life mentors through the Boat Club, while pursuing their passions for our beloved sport, exercise, friendship and fun. They have learned the lessons of commitment, leadership, teamwork, and connection.

Today, the Boat Club boasts over 250 members, from novices to elite. Through the Club, novice rowers, many of whom have never seen an oar before, learn to pull a handle alongside elite athletes preparing for world championships. The mix of ages and backgrounds creates a richness of experience and a diverse network for UWA students to grow and prosper in.

The Club’s connection with local high school Shenton College results in 90 high school students learning to row each year; a unique opportunity for a non-traditional rowing school. Through the Boat Club, these students develop a bond to UWA that paves the way for their education after high school. At UWA, they often continue to row and even coach up-and-coming high school students as undergraduates, developing skills in communication and leadership.

With so much accomplished already, the Boat Club has an even bigger vision for the future.

Will you help us open our doors to more students than ever before?
Will you help us create experiences and an education outside the classroom?
And help us foster a life-long rowing community that will be here for the next generation?

I sincerely hope you will join me in making a gift to the Club, supporting current and future rowers, in our centenary year.

Make a centenary gift to the UWA Boat Club

The UWA Boat Club’s Centenary Dinner was held at the University Club on Saturday 27 July 2019.

For any questions or feedback about the event, please contact Karlie Payne on vp.alumni@uwarowing.org.au

We believe that any young person with a passion and desire to row should have the chance.

Students have thrived on having access to inspirational coaching, a strong racing fleet and building lifelong friendships through the club.

This centenary year, help support the next generation of rowers with a gift to the UWA Boat Club.

Your gift will support:

  • Renewed club equipment, including single sculls, fours, and eights, required to compete at WA State, Intervarsity and National Championships.
  • Dedicated coaching support, from novice to elite, for all current and future members.
  • Access to a quality student rowing experience for every member; now and for the next 100 years through the Club's Future Fund.

Centenary donations of $1,000 and above will be recognised on the UWA Boat Club Honour Board.
Simply enter your donation below or download the UWABC gift form and post to the UWA Development and Alumni Relations Office.
